  The recently defunct Boxcar was a very special place that defined an area of downtown Provo and these were two very special evenings. Boxcar’s proprietor, Jake Buntjer curated a most extensive and diverse collection of curios filling the upstairs of an early 20th century warehouse in a dense but fascinating arrangement. Downstairs was a gorgeously appointed, spacious ballroom/theater where Nick Thurber shaped the live sound. Temporal/spatial constraints prevented trio rehearsals, but Erik and Timm worked together on a series of pithy/hypnotic grooves/structures that formed the basis for these performances. I told them in an email, the night before the first show, “You make it funky, I’ll make it freaky.” A large part of the attendees were Boxcar regulars, a unique and ardent subculture that eschews social media and floated in and out of this palace of wonders, day and night. They danced for hours, some wearing animal heads.
